Community Energy Network
This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
Funding
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills. The Community Energy Network (CEN) Project
The Community Energy Network project hopes to reduce the energy bills of businesses and residents on Scilly through access to cheaper, locally generated electricity. On top of this, a deeper insight into energy usage could mean we can reduce the overall energy consumption of the islands.
Solar CEN
We are planning on linking the Community Venture solar generation assets into the CEN and developing a roadmap for further development of local renewable energy as the CEN progresses.
Local Energy Tariff
A local energy tariff, which local electricity users can sign up to, will preferentially match them with the locally generated energy when available at a discount to their normal energy prices.
Smart Meters
An acceleration of the domestic smart meter rollout on the Islands will help people control their electricity bills and understand their overall energy consumption in detail.
Energy Clinic
This service is to support local residents with understanding their electricity bills and dealing with supplier issues as well as identifying ways to reduce their energy costs.
